About Paula Sharples Art

Paula graduated from Reigate School of Art in early 1970 having gained a degree in Textile Design and spent 28 years as a freelance textile designer for the furnishing and bedding market, creating designs for companies such as Coloroll and John Wolf Decorative Fabrics in the USA and also Portmeirion and Churchill China.

Having been brought up in Brighton, the coast is a constant inspiration in her paintings.

Now living in the Peak District she also draws inspiration from the beautiful landscape surrounding her home.

She works on gesso prepared board with acrylics, ink and graphite sometimes incorporating some of her original textile and furnishing fabrics in linens, silk, applique and embroidery and uses a combination of still life and landscape background reminiscent of Italian frescoes with the framing of a distant landscape. Her use of colour and pattern is evidence of her past in textile and ceramic design.
