About Flo London
FLO London The Shop consists of a collection of lifestyle products made from Ghana wax print fabrics.
Founded by Maawura Totoe, a British-born Ghanaian, FLO London The Shop is a combination of her love of the London lifestyle and the spirit of Ghana and its culture. Through merging these two passions, she developed this curated collection of lifestyle products.
These collections developed annually are dedicated to a different Ghanaian wax print fabric, offering a selection of classic, yet unique designs with some products also being reversible. Handmade in Ghana, these pieces have been designed with durability and sustainability close in mind; these will be items that you can use time and time again.
Ghana Wax Print Fabrics
Fabrics in Ghana have proverbial meanings.
FLO London The Shop’s 2021 collection is dedicated to the Ahwenepa Nkasa fabric. Ahwenepa Nkasa means ‘good waist beads do not make noise’. This is a common proverb among Ghanaians which implies you should let your deeds or character speak for you.
Our 2022 collection has been dedicated to a fabric called Nsubra. Nsubra means ‘water well’ in Twi, a language widely spoken in Ghana. The pattern on the fabric resembles the ripple effect of water when a stone is thrown into it. This serves as a reminder amongst Ghanaians that your actions can have an impact on others – the ripple effect.
