I studied Fine booking binding and Restoration many years ago and one of my inspirations was a book on insects that my parents gave me. From this I created a children’s A to Z of Insects book using my newly obtained binding and calligraphy skills.

This got me hooked on drawing detailed studies of our flora and fauna and many years later Claire Vaughan Designs was born!

I try to capture the beauty of the British natural world, chiefly insects, birds and now fish and draw the originals in black ink, pencil and gouache for accuracy and an authentic feel. For me it’s about raising a smile and with so many people embracing nature again, I wanted to offer something that is a reminder of the natural world around them. Transferring those drawings onto chinaware, ceramics, textiles, and of course paper and cards, is an absolute joy and the simplicity of the images hopefully speak for themselves.

I have also been very fortunate to have worked with several Wild Life Trusts, Natural England, and am an award winner at several RHS Flower shows.
